Hi, I'm David!
I've been playing guitar for 25 years and teaching for about half of that time. My career has taken me from jazz clubs in Los Angeles to television sets and film productions.
I studied Jazz Studies at Cal State University Northridge, where I had the opportunity to work with jazz luminaries, including Larry Koonse and Dr. John Daversa, which continues to shape my own teaching.
My Approach
Guitar lessons with me are built around the student in front of me.
My background in jazz shapes how I teach, especially when it comes to improvisation and harmony. During my interview process at Maestro Music, founder Noah, himself a professional guitarist and teacher, sat in on a trial lesson with me. He walked away so impressed that he signed up for lessons himself. I think that's a real testament to the fact that there's always more to learn.
Lessons can cover anything from foundational technique and music theory to jazz harmony, improvisation, and genre exploration.
Background & Experience
I've performed with Postmodern Jukebox, appeared on television shows including The Comedians (with Billy Crystal and Josh Gad) and Jane the Virgin, and performed on camera in the 2019 film Deadwood. I've also recorded guitar for short films and video games, including work with acclaimed composer Austin Wintory.
Outside of screen work, I've spent years performing with jazz and other ensembles around Los Angeles.
